Dynamo Win Crowd, but Lose Final

Woonsocket, RI - And just like that the 2022 RIMSEHL season has come to a close. The Bulldogs won the championship game in dramatic fashion, 3 - 2, in overtime.

This game was highly anticipated by Bulldog and Dynamo faithful alike, as the two teams have forged quite a rivalry over the years, perhaps one of the fiercest in RIMSEHL history. While the Bulldogs have had the upper hand of late, one online poll favored Team Dynamo to win the Belisle Cup quite heavily.

The Bulldogs struck first, in just the second shift of the game, on a powerplay strike. Dynamo veteran Matt Czerkowicz answered though, and it seemed as if the teams would be deadlocked at one after one, but the pesky Bulldogs scored to go ahead with just 2 seconds remaining in the period.

More back and forth ensued throughout the second period until the Dynamo got a powerplay tally of their own, an equalizer that would carry the two teams into overtime.

One observer did note an awful lot of involvement by the referees.

In what was a mostly even game throughout, with plentiful chances for both sides, it was the Bulldogs who triumphed a minute into the first overtime on a wrist shot from just inside the blueline.

It is worth noting the stellar play of Dynamo goaltender James Merola, who had yet to face the Bulldogs this season.

Here's to another season in the RIMSEHL with the Boys in Blue.

  1. More top of the circles than just inside blue line for game winner…

Either way, my heart cracked when it happened, there’s no debating that.
